About 4-5 months ago, Donna found out that a large number of horses were going to have to be placed from Medina Childens Home. This was a move the home was forced to make due to financial constraints. They didn’t have the people or time to put into locating them a good home, so Donna and I worked out a deal with the person managing this problem and he agreed to let us find them good homes.
Well, Donna took this on with a vengeance and used every resource available to find good placement for these horses. There wasn’t much history on them and it was difficult to weed through all the “drama” and find solid people to give them a great quality of life.
Well, after spending numerous hours and days on the computer, phone and internet, she was able to find homes for all the horses at risk of going to the sale. It was a very rewarding experience for Donna and I was blessed to watch it all unfold. She is truly a caring and wonderful woman…Again, I am blessed.
Well, we took one of the horses and named her Pixie. She is a paint horse with one blue eye and she is a wonderful horse. Donna has once again connected to her passion and has her a horse. She is like a little kid at Christmas and is as obsessed with Pixie as I am with my Harley… We all have to have our obsessions I guess!
Well, after this process was done, the guy who was running the show approached Donna and asked her if she would like to have another horse. Well, I had no idea and she accepted the gift and took ownership of a “25 year old thoroughbred.” He is so old, the vet could not age him as all his teeth to use for aging are gone, he has “Meth face” because his front teeth are missing…He is just a pleasant, kind, and affectionate old horse.
I called her one day and she said “Guess what, we have another horse!”
Of course I was happy for her but feared that we were about to become some kind of horse rescue and told her that this was all we could manage. I knew about Noah, loved the old guy, and even said “If Noah ever comes up for sale, I would like to buy him and give him a good life for the time he has left”
I sometimes forget how powerful thoughts are, even if I do preach this as often as I can!
Well, after the initial shock of having two horses now, I settled in, went to visit Noah and of course, fell in love with the old guy... He has me at the first visit anyway!
As we get Noah to the vet and do all the things a responsible horse owner is supposed to do, Donna noticed he had a tattoo on the inside of his upper lip. It was difficult to read but we knew if we could figure out what it was, we would be able to track Noahs life.
Well, last night (11-6-10) we went to bring Pixie back out to the home as they have allowed us to board our horses there. We went to try and get some pictures of Noah’s tattoo and were able to get the numbers figured out. We got home, and Donna got busy on the internet to try and locate Noah and his history.
It wasn’t long before we found out that Noah’s real name is “Smokey’s Song” and he was a race horse on the East Coast for a few years. We found out that he ran 145 races and won over 98,000.00 in his career. He was born in 1988 and she is now in the process of locating the trainers and breeders for Noah to see if we can get some old pictures ot info on him.
He raced all along the East Coast, Mostly in the New York area and we haven’t found out how he got to Texas yet…She is working on it though! He also has lineage back to Seabiscuit and some other big name thoroughbreds.
I guess it just goes to show you, follow your heart, trust the process, even when all the evidence tells you not to, and wait for the gifts that are coming to you as a result. “Good” actions create “good” results and we have found over and over and over again that his is a truth for our lives.
When you get a chance, go to Donnas page on facebook and check out ole Noah…He is a pleasure to have as our horse and now we are even more excited to learn about him. We will keep you updated as we get updated.
